It starts as glossy soap — feuding wives, status envy, a sinister 'admissions coordinator' — then curdles into something much darker about what ambition does to parents and children alike. Addictive, glossy, occasionally absurd, and completely merciless about who pays the price.

It's the nonfiction mirror of Sky Castle's central nightmare: proof the show's satire was, if anything, restrained.
The real-life American version of Sky Castle's premise — wealthy parents bribing, faking and cheating their kids into elite universities, dramatised with actual wiretap transcripts. Fiction didn't exaggerate much.
But Docudrama reenactments can feel stiffer than the drama they're echoing, and there's no catharsis — the guilty mostly walked away fine.

Another ensemble of the comfortable and complicit, another script that finds the exact point where satire becomes tragedy — Mike White clearly studied the same wealthy dysfunction.
But Anthology format means no long-term investment in characters, and the humour is drier, more American in its irony.

The original suburban-secrets soap — gossiping neighbours, immaculate lawns, and a body count hiding behind the smiles. Sky Castle owes it a structural debt whether it knows it or not.
But Broader, campier, and American-sitcom paced — the satire is gentler and the stakes rarely feel this existential.

A gleefully strange Japanese black comedy about a tutor hired to force a mediocre son into a good school, and the household he quietly detonates. Sky Castle's tutor-as-saboteur plot, thirty-five years early.
But Deadpan, theatrical and very Japanese-80s in its pacing — this is farce with teeth, not the glossy soap register you're used to.
Élite2018
Takes Sky Castle's DNA — elite institutions, parental status, a secret that ends in death — and plays it as glossy teen soap instead of family tragedy.
A Spanish teen drama where working-class kids collide with the impossibly rich at an elite school, class resentment curdling into murder. All of Sky Castle's status anxiety, dialled up into pure trashy pleasure.
But Soapier, sexier and far less interested in psychological nuance — it wants to thrill you, not indict anyone.
