LINK CLICK

A Chinese anime about two men who step into photographs to solve mysteries and help clients—except their interventions inevitably spiral. Gorgeously animated, emotionally sharp, and genuinely unnerving: it treats time travel's consequences seriously. For anyone who loved the idea of *Steins;Gate* but wanted something darker and more human-scaled.

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you enjoy light, episodic fantasy where a clever premise about slipping into photographs keeps producing new complications, and where the fun lies in watching two odd partners improvise their way out.

Skip it if you want a single continuous plot pushing toward a big payoff, since this runs as a long run of self-contained client jobs that can wander and repeat their setups.

What it asks of you: Forty-one episodes of roughly twenty minutes each across four seasons, so it asks for patience and a taste for steady, low-stakes sessions rather than binge-driven momentum.

Steins;Gate2011

Time manipulation thriller where every change to the past creates cascading disasters. Like Link Click, it's about brilliant people trying to fix things and making them worse—but Steins;Gate earns its complexity gradually.

But The first episodes are slow and chatty. The payoff is phenomenal, but you have to trust the setup for a while.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story2020

Starts as a cute magical girl show, then reveals it's about the cost of wishes and sacrifice. Link Click has the same tonal whiplash: chirpy on the surface, devastating underneath.

But Only twelve episodes, so it's a commitment to sit with something that heavy. Some find the later animation style jarring.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho A Story that leads to the Antarctica2018

Anime about friendship and commitment. The emotional core is genuine, the humor lands, and it respects its characters enough to let them fail and grow.

But It's fundamentally optimistic in a way Link Click isn't. If you're watching for darkness, this will feel lighter than you want.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Baccano!2007

Both use time as a narrative structure rather than a plot device. You're not watching people solve a problem in time—you're watching time itself reveal its architecture.

Non-linear narrative anime where multiple timelines and perspectives braid together into one pattern. It shares Link Click's fascination with how small actions ripple across time, but tells it like a caper instead of a tragedy.

But The overlapping stories and constant jumping make it genuinely hard to follow. Rewatch is almost mandatory to understand what you missed.

Ergo Proxy2006

Philosophical anime about two unlikely companions in a dying world, hunting answers. Beautiful, moody, and genuinely strange in ways most anime won't attempt.

But Deliberately paced and cryptic. If you want plot clarity, you'll be frustrated. It's more interested in mood than answers.

Jujutsu Kaisen2020

Slick shonen anime that surprises you by caring about its characters as much as its fights. Sharp writing, real stakes, and a protagonist who isn't invincible.

But It's longer and more action-driven than Link Click. If you're allergic to battle sequences, this won't work for you.

Your Name.2016

Beautiful romantic sci-fi about two people swapping bodies across time and space. It nails the emotional weight of connection and the horror of not being able to reach someone you love.

But It's a film, so it wraps up neatly—nothing like Link Click's willingness to leave wounds open. Some find it emotionally manipulative.

Haibane Renmei2002

Quiet, strange anime about characters discovering their own nature through careful observation and conversation. Atmospheric and genuinely affecting.

But Slow and deliberately obscure. It trusts the audience to sit with ambiguity, which means some answers never come.

Made in Abyss2017

Children descend into a mysterious chasm. Like Link Click, it's deceptively charming on the surface while exploring something genuinely dark and unknowable.

But The tone shifts sharply into body horror and trauma in the second half. If the cuteness hooks you and then the darkness repels you, that's a legitimate problem.

12 Angry Men1957

Both are about reconstruction: Link Click rebuilds moments from photographs to understand what really happened; Twelve Angry Men rebuilds an event from fragments of testimony. Both ask: how much can you truly know?

Twelve jurors debate whether a man is guilty. No action, no spectacle—just conversation about evidence, assumption, and whether we can truly know what happened. Hypnotic.

But A single room. A single day. Black-and-white. If you want visual spectacle or pace, you'll find this unbearably static.
