Historical Roasts
- Satire
- Dip in and out
Jeff Ross hosts irreverent comedy roasts of historical figures, blending stand-up cruelty with actual history lessons. It's sharp and silly, a format that works better on paper than on screen. For anyone who enjoys roast comedy and doesn't mind their education served with cheap jokes and uncomfortable laughter.

The Toys That Made Us2017
Netflix's nostalgic docuseries celebrates beloved toys with genuine affection and fascinating design stories. Smart, warm, and genuinely interested in how culture gets made. A perfect palate cleanser.
But If you didn't grow up with these toys, the emotional hooks won't land. Some episodes drag when they run out of material.

Drunk History2013
Comedians get tipsy and recount real events while actors lip-sync the chaos. It's messy, hilarious, and somehow educational. The format is forgiving and genuinely clever.
But The slurred storytelling can be hard to follow. Some segments are funnier in concept than execution.

Horrible Histories2009
British sketch comedy about actual history that's sharper and wittier than it has any right to be. Fast-paced, genuinely informative, and very funny without punching down at its subjects.
But The British humour style isn't for everyone. You need to pay attention or you'll miss the jokes.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel2017
A stand-up comedian in the 1950s navigates marriage, family, and her career. Propulsive, beautifully made, with genuinely excellent comedy writing and pitch-perfect performances.
But The relentless perfection of the production design and pacing can feel exhausting. Some plots feel invented to justify set pieces.

Documentary Now!2015
Comedians spoof famous documentaries with meticulous detail and real affection for their subjects. Smart, beautifully shot, and often hilarious because it understands what made the originals work.
But You'll enjoy it more if you've seen the films being parodied. Some parodies land harder than others.

I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson2019
Tim Robinson's sketch show is absurdist, deeply uncomfortable, and genuinely original. Every sketch commits fully to its weird premise. It's unlike anything else on television.
But The humour is deeply weird and divisive. Long stretches will feel more painful than funny if it's not your vibe.

Veep2012
Rapid-fire political satire where every character is both despicable and finely drawn. Relentlessly clever writing, flawless ensemble cast, and jokes that land in layers.
But The cruelty becomes relentless and exhausting by season four. The characters never grow, which some find repetitive.

Avenue 52020
Armando Iannucci's space comedy about a doomed luxury cruise ship. Sharp writing, an excellent ensemble, and genuine pathos underneath the chaos and incompetence.
But It was cancelled after two seasons. Iannucci's style is dense and demands your full attention.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj2018
Stand-up mixed with animated explainers on contemporary issues. Well-researched, visually inventive, and tries genuinely to inform while entertaining.
But The animations can feel patronizing. The balance between comedy and information wobbles across episodes.
