Haunted Hotel
A single mother inherits a haunted hotel and must keep it running while managing her estranged brother—now a ghost—and his increasingly unhinged supernatural roommates. It's funny, weird, and genuinely odd in the way a show becomes when it commits fully to its premise. For people who like comedy that's not afraid of the grotesque.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you like sitcom bickering layered over spooky set-ups, where the ghosts are as petty and unreliable as the family squabbling beneath them.
Skip it if you want scares that linger, since this is a light, quick-fire comedy where the horror is mostly a backdrop for jokes and family friction.
What it asks of you: Episodes run about twenty-five minutes at a brisk clip, asking you to keep pace with a cluttered cast of living and dead characters rather than settle into dread.

If you liked this
Schitt's Creek2015
A family forced into unlikely circumstances builds something genuinely moving while staying hilarious. The warmth under the comedy and the way it trusts character arcs make it deeply satisfying.
But Starts slow. The first season feels like a broad sitcom before the show finds what it's actually about.

What We Do in the Shadows2019
Mockumentary horror-comedy about vampire roommates figuring out modern life. It has that same energy of weird supernatural people trying to manage banal domestic problems with escalating chaos.
But Vampire comedies can feel tired. This one works, but you need to buy into its specific deadpan tone.

The Good Place2016
High-concept comedy about humans trying to survive in strange circumstances with a cast of mismatched people. Smart, absurd, and genuinely invested in its characters' arcs.
But Gets complicated. The mythology builds in ways that either delight you or feel like it's trying too hard.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency2016
Both are ensemble comedies about misfits forced into proximity where the supporting cast's unhinged logic drives the plot forward.
Absurdist mystery-comedy where a chaotic detective and his reluctant handler stumble through connected conspiracies. It has the same DNA of people trapped together by circumstance, but filtered through pure narrative chaos.
But Genuinely baffling. The plot becomes deliberately impossible to follow. Some love that; others find it exhausting.

Dead End: Paranormal Park2022
Animated series about two teens running a haunted road-trip attraction. Spooky and comedic with real stakes, and it genuinely cares about its characters underneath the weirdness.
But Shorter seasons and a younger energy. If you need grounded adult humor, this might feel slight.

Ghosts2019
British couple inherits a haunted manor full of ghost residents with conflicting agendas. Ensemble supernatural comedy where every character wants something different and chaos naturally follows.
But Leans more cozy than dark. If you want bite along with your laughs, this can feel a bit genteel.

Kevin Can F**k Himself2021
Deconstructs the sitcom trope of the put-upon housewife and the oblivious husband. Sharp, darkly funny, and structurally inventive in how it tells the story.
But Uneven tone—it swings between broad comedy and genuine darkness. Some people find that jarring rather than effective.

Lodge 492018
A laid-back guy joins a mysterious fraternal order and gets slowly pulled into surreal conspiracies. Weird, generous-spirited, and oddly comforting despite the strangeness.
But Slow burn. It rewards patience but demands a lot of it. Won't appeal if you need immediate payoff.

Barry2018
A hitman tries to become an actor while still having to kill people. Genuinely funny but also genuinely dark, and never settles into being just one or the other.
But The comedy gets swallowed by the violence sometimes. If you want light-hearted fun, this betrays that.

Welcome to Wrexham2022
A group of misfits tries to run a struggling football club. Feel-good, ensemble-driven, and funny in ways that emerge from character rather than setups.
But Relies heavily on goodwill toward its cast. If they don't charm you immediately, the show's warmth won't land.

The Midnight Club2022
Uses ghosts and the supernatural not as punchlines but as vessels for grief and the uncanny—the dark shadow that comedy about haunted spaces could cast.
Ten strangers in a hospice tell ghost stories to each other. Gothic, genuinely eerie, anthology-structured. Mike Flanagan's take on horror that values mood and the sadness underneath the scares.
But Darker and more sincere than Haunted Hotel. It wants you invested in mortality and loss, not just laughing at the absurd.

A Serious Man2009
Both center on someone desperately trying to keep a situation running while surrounded by the supernatural and the incomprehensible; here the incomprehensibility is the entire point.
A man's life quietly falls apart while a community of ghosts—his past, his obligations, his God—surround him. It's comedy filtered through dread, where nothing makes sense and everyone involved has theories about why.
But Bleak and elliptical. No catharsis, no answers, no comfort. The Coen Brothers at their most austere.
