Win It All
Win It All is a scrappy comedy about a small-time gambler given temporary custody of a friend's criminal nest egg. It's charming in a loose, understated way—less concerned with plot mechanics than with watching likeable people make bad decisions. For fans of character-driven comedies and Jake Johnson's particular brand of weary charisma.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you enjoy a scrappy, low-key comedy about a charming screwup whose bad decisions are funny precisely because you can see them coming, with a warm, slightly shabby heart under the hustle.
Skip it if you want big set pieces or a brisk plot; this one is loose and talky, with its humor living in small awkward moments that may feel thin if you are expecting a polished crime caper.
What it asks of you: About ninety minutes of unhurried, character-first attention. It stays light and wry rather than tense, and it lingers on conversations and hangdog moments more than on momentum.

Bad Boys II2003
Explosive buddy comedy with genuine warmth beneath the mayhem. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have the kind of easy chemistry that makes even absurd premises sing. Pure entertainment that doesn't apologize for wanting to make you laugh.
But The action sequences go on forever and the plot is essentially nonexistent. If you want narrative coherence or subtlety, this isn't your film.

The Overnight2015
Adam Scott and Jason Schwartzman in a comedy about suburban couples that finds something genuinely unsettling beneath the awkward humor. Smart, weird, and deeply funny—proof that comedy doesn't need spectacle to work.
But It's deliberately uncomfortable and builds to absurdity that some will find indulgent. The pacing is deliberate; it won't rush you anywhere.

21 Jump Street2012
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill discover real comedic chemistry while playing cops pretending to be students. It's ridiculous and self-aware without being smug. Proof that comedy sequels can actually work when the cast genuinely enjoys each other.
But The plot is utterly disposable and it relies on your goodwill toward the genre. Without that, it's just two guys riffing for ninety minutes.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Ghostland2018
Both films use genre—comedy and horror respectively—as a vehicle to explore characters in moral or psychological crisis, treating the setup as secondary to the character's internal collapse and what they'll do under pressure.
A French horror film about trauma and grief that uses genre conventions to express the inexpressible. It's visually stunning, structurally inventive, and genuinely moving—proof that horror can excavate emotional truth that straightforward drama cannot reach.
But It's violent and disturbing in ways that will alienate many viewers. The ending is cryptic and divisive; some will find it brilliant, others exploitative. It demands patience and doesn't offer easy comfort.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping2016
Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island's surprisingly sharp satire of celebrity and ego. It's stupid and smart in alternating breaths, genuinely funny about how we worship mediocrity, and never overstays its welcome.
But The humor is primarily sketch-based, so if a gag doesn't land for you, you're stranded for a minute. Some will find it slight rather than clever.

Game Night2018
Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams in a murder-mystery comedy that actually commits to both halves of that formula. It's clever, beautifully shot, and funnier than it has any right to be given how slick it looks.
But The mystery is convoluted and sometimes the cleverness gets in its own way. It tries to be too many things at once, and that ambition can feel scattered.

I Love You, Man2009
Paul Rudd and Jason Segel as friends navigating love and loyalty. It's genuinely heartfelt without losing the ability to make you laugh. The relationship feels real in a way most comedies don't bother attempting.
But It's unabashedly romantic and sincere, which some will find saccharine. The humor can be broad, and it's very much of its era.

The Night Before2015
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie as old friends trying to recapture the magic of their wild nights out. It's affectionate about growing up without being preachy, and genuinely funny about how friendship survives adulthood.
But It's a stoner comedy with all that entails—some will find the humor juvenile. The plot is flimsy and the sentimentality might feel unearned.

Tropic Thunder2008
An ensemble comedy that skewers Hollywood excess and method acting. Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Jack Black in a film that's both stupid and intelligent, crude and clever. Genuinely quotable and endlessly rewatchable.
But The satire is broad rather than subtle, and some of the jokes land harder on repeat viewing than the first time. If you're skeptical of comedy that punches at itself, you'll resist it.

Observe and Report2009
Seth Rogen in a comedy that's actually uncomfortable and weird, about a mall security guard spiraling into something darker. It's funny and unsettling in equal measure, and willing to let its protagonist be genuinely flawed rather than sympathetic.
But It's tonally strange and doesn't resolve neatly. The humor is deliberately off-putting, and it often prioritizes weirdness over laughs.

Halt and Catch Fire2014
Both are interested in small, capable people trying to survive by their wits in situations they partly created. Both understand that the real story isn't the scheme or the bet—it's what the attempt costs internally, and whether the person survives it intact.
A series about computer pioneers in the 1980s that's actually about ambition, disappointment, and how we mythologize our own importance. It's gorgeous and obsessive, and grows richer with every season. By the end, it's one of the smartest shows about work and legacy ever made.
But The first season feels uneven and the stakes are sometimes unclear. It's slow and contemplative when many want momentum. The technical detail around computers will either fascinate or bore you completely.

The Banshees of Inisherin2022
A protagonist whose relationship to money and other people's trust is tested, revealing who he actually is beneath the charm and improvisation. Both films understand that comedy and sadness sit right next to each other, and the best stories live in the overlap.
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as friends who inexplicably stop speaking, set on a tiny Irish island. It's funny and devastating, a character study disguised as a parable. Martin McDonagh at his most precise—every line earned, every gesture meaningful, utterly absorbing.
But It's bleak and the premise feels remote—if the relationship doesn't hook you immediately, the island setting can feel claustrophobic rather than meditative. Some will find it pretentious or emotionally cold.
