Tiger Zinda Hai

A sprawling Bollywood spy thriller where Salman Khan's retired agent comes out of hiding to rescue hostages in Iraq. Relentlessly paced, globe-trotting action with elaborate set pieces, romantic chemistry, and the glossy melodrama that defines Khan's star vehicles. For fans of big-budget spectacle over realism.

TMDb rating3.1

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you want a big, unapologetically crowd-pleasing spy caper where set pieces matter more than realism and the stakes are carried by a team of rescuers with a bit of heart.

Skip it if the story runs long for a rescue plot and leans on loud, sometimes ridiculous action; if blockbuster excess and a 160-minute runtime wear you down, it will test you.

What it asks of you: It asks for a full two and a half hours of patience with escalating set pieces, and it rarely pauses to let the mood breathe between explosions.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout2018

Cruise delivers the same globe-hopping spy action with genuine stunts and impossible sequences. Intricate plotting, charismatic leads, and setpieces designed to take your breath away. Pure blockbuster craft.

But Demands you've seen the previous films, and at 147 minutes, it's almost as long as Tiger Zinda Hai without the romantic subplot padding.

Ek Tha Tiger2012

The original film that started it all—Khan and Kaif together, establishing the chemistry and tone you're here for. Tighter plotting, equally fun action, and it's the blueprint for what makes these films work.

But Older production values, and if you want bigger set pieces, the 2017 sequel upped the scale considerably.

Race 32018

Salman Khan in another high-octane thriller with international locations, ridiculous action sequences, and zero interest in physics. Silly in exactly the same way, equally committed to entertainment over sense.

But The plot barely holds together, and critics were brutal—but that's not really the point of watching it.

Something you would not have found on your own.

The Great Wall2016

Both are massive-budget action films designed as international co-productions, built to dazzle audiences across multiple continents with expensive setpieces and grand scope.

Matt Damon in a Chinese-American co-production set in ancient China, fighting monsters with the same globe-spanning production values and action spectacle. Visually sumptuous, structurally bold, and unafraid of scale and color.

But The historical fantasy setting is a complete tonal shift from modern-day espionage; some found the cross-cultural casting controversial and the plot underwhelming.

Pathaan2023

Shah Rukh Khan returns as a spy in a contemporary action vehicle with a similar globe-spanning scope. Modern production, muscular direction, and that Bollywood scale you came for.

But You'd be starting a different Khan's franchise; this isn't Salman, and the tone is darker and more serious.

Captain America: Civil War2016

Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff in an action thriller with Dubai, international locations, and sequences designed to blow the roof off. Exceptionally choreographed fight work and genuine star power.

But The plot twist is divisive, and some viewers find the tone shifts jarring in the third act.

Commando - A One Man Army2013

Vidyut Jammwal in an underrated action vehicle: single-minded soldier, global locations, no-frills approach to rescue missions. Lean, mean, and genuinely fun.

But Made on a smaller budget—the spectacle feels confined, and it lacks the romance subplot you might expect from this genre.

Rosemary's Baby1968

An Indian intelligence thriller with a sprawling narrative, international chases, and genuine geopolitical stakes. Darker than Khan's work but in the same family of spy-action hybrids.

But Longer than you'd expect at 160 minutes, and the tone is considerably grittier; it won't give you the lighter thrills you came for.

Krrish 32013

Hrithik Roshan as a superhero in an action-adventure that rivals Bollywood spectacle. Inventive action, fun plotting, and the same commitment to scale as Tiger Zinda Hai.

But It's a superhero sequel, so the sci-fi elements might feel like a departure if you wanted grounded spy action.

Dishoom2016

John Abraham in a globe-trotting action thriller set across India and Abu Dhabi. Stylish direction, strong supporting cast, and the kind of heist-action hybrid that sustains longer runtimes well.

But The romantic subplot feels tacked on, and the climax resolves faster than the buildup suggests.

Pickpockets2018

Both build their narratives around assembling a specialized team for a dangerous overseas mission; both use geography and logistics as integral to the story.

A slick Korean action-thriller about skilled criminals on a high-stakes heist. Taut direction, clever plotting, and a completely different sensibility—but the same commitment to entertaining action sequences and international locations.

But Subtitled, a very different tone (much drier), and the heist-caper structure won't give you the rescue-mission heroism of Tiger Zinda Hai.

The Secret of Kells2009

Both films are rooted in real cultural geography and use their international settings as essential narrative elements rather than backdrop; both celebrate the specificities of place and tradition.

An Irish animated fantasy where a boy must venture into a dangerous forest to complete a magical illuminated manuscript. Visually extraordinary, a completely different register from action cinema but with the same sense of adventure and global cultural texture.

But Animated fantasy for younger audiences; there's no action, no spy plot, no romance—it's a spiritual successor to folklore cinema, not modern thrillers.
