Love Thy Neighbour
Other titles called Love Thy Neighbour: the 1972 series (ITV1).
A Nigerian romantic comedy about two neighbours trying to live by their faith and love their fellow human—until an attractive new tenant arrives next door. Brisk, warm, and funny, it plays with the gap between good intentions and human nature. For anyone who enjoys smart ensemble comedies with heart and a cultural specificity that feels lived-in rather than performed.

Crazy, Stupid, Love.2011
A witty ensemble rom-com that understands how messy real relationships are, even when everyone involved is trying their best. Sharp writing, excellent chemistry, and genuine emotional stakes beneath the humour.
But The structure can feel overstuffed—multiple love stories means less time developing any single one. Some jokes land harder than others.

Write When You Get Work2018
A sharp British indie about friendship, ambition, and the small betrayals that happen between people who care about each other. It has the same blend of humour and emotional honesty, with dialogue that feels like actual conversation.
But Very low-budget aesthetics. The story meanders deliberately, which means there's no clear plot engine driving things forward. Patience required.

Under the Silver Lake2018
A devilishly funny ensemble piece about neighbours, secrets, and the stories we tell about each other. It's weird and digressive, but the character work is razor-sharp and the humour comes from watching people reveal themselves.
But It's genuinely strange and gets stranger. If you want a straightforward plot, this will frustrate you. Some viewers find the tone jarring.

Something you would not have found on your own.
Pretty Little Liars2010
Both are about neighbours trying to navigate desire and decency, but this one assumes everyone is lying to themselves and everyone else. Where Love Thy Neighbour is about good intentions, this is about intentions we don't even admit to having.
An Icelandic six-part series about neighbours, infidelity, and the lies that build between people who live in close proximity. It's darkly funny, genuinely tense, and much smarter about human nature than it initially appears.
But The mood is much colder than a Nigerian rom-com. It assumes you'll find character flaws and self-deception funny rather than warmly sympathetic. Subtitled, and the Icelandic register is bleak.

The Best Man1999
A warm, funny exploration of friendship and desire within a tight community. The ensemble cast has genuine chemistry, the dialogue sparkles, and it treats all its characters with real affection even when they disappoint each other.
But Very of its moment in some ways. The pacing is leisurely—if you want incident-driven drama, this prioritises character chat instead.

Anne of Green Gables1985
A Danish comedy-drama about two women navigating desire, loyalty, and the gap between who we want to be and who we are. It's intimate, intelligent, and genuinely funny without ever becoming cynical about its characters.
But Subtitled. The narrative is deliberately scattered, following moods more than plot. Very internal; not much happens in the conventional sense.

Premam2015
A Malayalam romantic comedy with real wit and surprising emotional depth. It's about love and attraction across years and circumstances, with a light touch and genuine affection for all its characters, even the flawed ones.
But If you're unfamiliar with Malayalam cinema, some of the cultural registers might feel opaque. It's longer than it needs to be in places.

Set It Up2018
A buoyant ensemble rom-com that understands the pleasure of scheming with a friend. It's joyful without being stupid, and the supporting cast elevates every scene they're in.
But The central plot is fairly boilerplate rom-com machinery. If you've seen dozens of these, the basic rhythm won't surprise you.

Nobody Knows2004
A comedy-drama about neighbours and secrets with real warmth. It observes how people in close proximity navigate intimacy, judgment, and care. Funny without punching down, and surprisingly moving.
But Very slow-burn. The plot is gossamer-thin. If you need momentum or external conflict, this will feel static.

Couple in a Hole2016
The inverse premise: neighbours confronting radical otherness rather than attraction. Where Love Thy Neighbour asks how you love someone you desire, this asks what you do when someone nearby is incomprehensible. Both films are built on proximity and the ethics of living beside someone else.
A British film about two people who have deliberately chosen to live as hermits in the French woods, and what happens when their neighbours discover them. It's surreal, quietly funny, and profoundly strange. Beautifully shot and genuinely unsettling.
But There's very little conventional dialogue or plot. It's a mood piece about alienation and disconnection. If you want character clarity or narrative momentum, you will be frustrated.
