Love, Guaranteed
- Comedy
- Light-hearted
A scrappy lawyer with a dating-app lawsuit stumbles into genuine romance while defending a client against a love-guarantee claim. It's a fizzy, low-stakes Netflix rom-com that knows exactly what it is: a palate cleanser with charm, warmth, and enough banter to keep you smiling. For anyone who wants romance without consequences or thinking.

Set It Up2018
Two overworked assistants scheme to set up their demanding bosses, only to tumble into each other instead. Sharp writing, electric chemistry, and the same formula Netflix perfected—a meet-cute with teeth and genuine wit underneath.
But If you've seen one rom-com, you've seen this one. The plot points arrive exactly when you expect them, and there's no real darkness lurking underneath.

Holidate2020
A woman and man agree to be each other's plus-one for a year of holidays, and feelings inevitably complicate things. Same era, same streaming home, same lightness—but with better comic chemistry and slightly sharper edge.
But The central concept is thin and the third act feels obligatory rather than earned. Some jokes land louder in a theater with strangers than alone.

The Proposal2009
Margaret Teasdale forces her assistant to fake an engagement, and they discover actual connection amid the chaos. It has the same bones but with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, meaning the banter has actual bite.
But It's ten years older and slightly more cynical than you might want. Some of the workplace power dynamics haven't aged perfectly.

Something you would not have found on your own.
Ghosted2023
Both interrogate dating culture and app culture—one by embracing it, one by skewering it. Love, Guaranteed assumes the system works; Ghosted asks if it should.
A man discovers his one-night stand has ghosted him, so he stalks her across the country. It's a rom-com that actually examines why the meet-cute-turned-stalker premise is, you know, deeply creepy. Dark, smart, and genuinely funny in ways that make you uncomfortable.
But It takes the genre's worst impulses and holds them up to the light without flinching. If you want pure escapism, this will actively irritate you.

Overboard2018
A wealthy woman loses her memory and a carpenter convinces her she's his wife. It's a high-concept premise executed with warmth, chemistry, and jokes that actually land because the leads commit completely.
But The body-swap-adjacent premise is frankly ridiculous, and you have to buy into that nonsense before the charm kicks in. The humor skews broad.

Always Be My Maybe2019
A woman and childhood best friend reconnect in San Francisco, and everything complicated comes roaring back. Keanu Reeves steals the film, the chemistry is genuine, and it understands why second chances matter.
But The middle section sags, and some plot beats feel predictable. A few jokes about celebrity culture don't quite land as hard as intended.

The Kissing Booth2018
Two teenagers navigate first love while their friendship hangs in the balance. It's pure, uncomplicated wish-fulfillment cinema that understands why people watch romance films at all.
But If you're over twenty-five, the perspective will feel juvenile and frustrating. The love triangle drags on longer than it should, and some decisions by characters are maddening.

Falling Inn Love2019
A woman impulsively bids on a property in New Zealand and meets a handsome local. The setting is gorgeous, the forced proximity creates real chemistry, and it never pretends to be more than it is.
But The plot is threadbare and the leads have mild chemistry at best. The romance feels obligatory rather than inevitable, and you've seen this exact setup five times.

Love Hard2021
A woman travels to meet an online match and discovers he's catfished her—except the real person is someone else entirely. It plays with rom-com tropes in unexpected ways and commits to its own premise with actual invention.
But The central deception makes the third act feel contrived. Jimmy O. Yang's character exists to be a consolation prize rather than a fully realized person, which is uncomfortable.

One Fine Day1996
Both are lawyer-meets-client stories that trust chemistry over plot complications. One is contemporary and fleet; one is patient and observation-heavy. Same emotional engine, wildly different eras.
A single mother and divorced architect spend a chaotic New York day together, and their connection feels earned because they're both genuinely competent people. The dialogue sparkles, the city feels alive, and it remembers that romance requires mutual respect.
But It's from 1996, so the pacing is slow by streaming standards. If you need constant energy and plot momentum, it will feel mannered and careful.

Marriage Story2019
Both center on legal entanglement and what the law can and cannot protect. One asks whether love can be guaranteed; the other asks what happens when it isn't.
An actor and playwright navigate their divorce through two different lawyers, and what emerges is a ferociously intelligent film about partnership, compromise, and what happens when love curdles. It's devastating and clarifying in equal measure.
But It's a film about a marriage ending, not beginning. If you watch Love, Guaranteed for escape, this will feel like punishment. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver are phenomenal and it is grueling to watch them suffer.
