Good Newwz
- Comedy
- Light-hearted
Good Newwz is a warm-hearted Bollywood comedy about two couples navigating infertility and IVF, who discover their biological samples have been mixed up at the clinic. It's funny without being mean, emotionally genuine without losing its lightness, and celebrates modern Indian families with real affection. Ideal for anyone who wants heart alongside humour.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you like farce built on tight misunderstandings and a loving, bickering domestic chemistry, where the jokes come from people trying hard to stay dignified while everything goes sideways.
Skip it if you want restraint or a quiet emotional drama; this one leans loud and broad, and its comedy of errors may feel repetitive if slapstick and big reactions wear you down.
What it asks of you: Around two and a bit hours, it moves briskly through a sequence of escalating mix-ups, with plenty of shouting and sudden swerves in tone, so it rewards a viewer who will ride along rather than dissect.

Shershaah2021
A stirring true-story drama about courage and sacrifice that matches Good Newwz's ability to make you laugh and cry without ever feeling manipulative. Akshay Kumar at his most earnest and affecting.
But War films aren't everyone's taste, and the runtime demands patience. Some may find the patriotic register heavy-handed.

Piku2015
Shares Good Newwz's gift for finding comedy in the ordinary chaos of modern Indian families. Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan's chemistry crackles, and the writing treasures character over spectacle.
But The humour hinges entirely on family dynamics; if that setup feels stale to you, the film won't shift your mind.

Article 152019
Proves Bollywood can do serious social drama without losing its warmth or humanity. Ayushmann Khurrana delivers, and the film treats its subject—caste violence—with genuine moral weight while remaining watchable.
But It's heavy and deliberately uncomfortable. The tonal shifts between comedy and dark subject matter won't work for everyone.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Thappad2020
Both examine contemporary Indian marriage and gender through female agency; Good Newwz celebrates women's choice to have children, Thappad celebrates a woman's choice to leave.
A film about a woman who leaves her marriage after a single slap—a decision everyone tells her is wrong. It shares Good Newwz's interest in modern Indian marriage and female agency, but approaches it with unflinching seriousness. Taapsee Pannu is extraordinary.
But There's no lightness here. It's deliberately austere and will feel like a different film entirely if you're expecting warmth or humour.

Badhaai Ho2018
Another comedy about families and sex that respects both the humour and the real emotions underneath. Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao are wonderful, and the film finds wisdom in what could have been a thin premise.
But Relies heavily on cringe comedy around parents and sexuality; if that makes you wince, you won't relax into it.

Kabali2016
Rajinikanth at his most charismatic, anchoring a stylish crime saga that rewards patience. Visually inventive and genuinely thrilling, even if the plot occasionally gets tangled.
But Requires familiarity with Tamil cinema language and Rajini's particular register. The middle sags and some dialogue feels overwrought.

Khosla Ka Ghosla!2006
A gem: a comedy about an ordinary Delhi family and property fraud that's witty, small-scale, and genuinely surprising. Real warmth between characters and some genuinely sharp writing.
But The humour is dry and character-driven, not slapstick. It moves quietly, which some will find slow.

Happy Bhag Jayegi2016
A fluffy, unambitious rom-com that knows exactly what it is and executes it cheerfully. Diana Penty is charming, the cross-border premise is fun, and it never overstays its welcome.
But It's fluff, amiably. If you want substance or novelty, you won't find it here.

Natrang2010
A Marathi gem about an aging theatre actor's obsession with a classical role. It's funny, human, and has genuine pathos without ever losing sight of its absurdist edge. Medha Manjrekar is superb.
But Regional cinema; subtitled if you don't speak Marathi. The pacing is deliberately leisurely and the tone uneven.

Phillauri2017
A romantic ghost story that's earnest and a bit strange. Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh have real chemistry, and the film commits fully to its own gentle weirdness without irony.
But Tonally confused—it can't decide if it's comedy or romance or drama, and that uncertainty derails the story. The ending won't satisfy everyone.

Page 32005
Both use ensemble casts and multiple storylines to examine modern India; Good Newwz finds hope and warmth in families, Page 3 finds rot in high society.
Madhur Bhandarkar's dark comedy about Mumbai's high society and media, filtered through interconnected lives and moral compromises. Sharp, funny, and genuinely cynical in a way that feels fresh. Konkona Sen Sharma is a revelation.
But It's genuinely nasty about women and human nature. The film approves of almost no one, and the relentlessness can feel exhausting. Also substantially dated.

Mulholland Drive2001
Both are obsessed with reproduction—of children in Good Newwz, of selves in Mulholland Drive—and what happens when reality corrupts the story you've told yourself.
David Lynch's Hollywood nightmare about identity, dreams, and the cost of ambition. Nothing like Good Newwz in surface, but shares its interest in how people construct narratives around what they desperately want. Mesmerizing and unsettling.
But It's deliberately confusing, sexually explicit in places, and designed to frustrate narrative certainty. Lynch asks you to work; some will find that pretentious or simply unpleasant.
