Gang of Ghosts

A Hindi comedy-horror film about ghosts in an old house banding together to stop its demolition. Light-hearted and deliberately silly, with supernatural antics played for laughs rather than scares. Made for audiences who enjoy broad slapstick, ensemble casts, and the particular charm of Bollywood's genre-mixing approach to entertainment.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa2007

Akshay Kumar in a haunted-house comedy that balances genuine scares with comedy beats. Sharp, entertaining, and proof that Bollywood does this formula brilliantly when the script clicks.

But The horror elements can feel tacked on if you're watching for pure laughs, and the resolution leans heavily into exposition you may see coming.

Stree2018

A witty, confident horror-comedy that knows exactly what it's doing. Great cast chemistry, genuinely clever writing, and it respects your intelligence while making you laugh.

But The horror is quite lightly worn; if you want real scares, you'll be disappointed. Also requires some familiarity with Indian folklore to land all the jokes.

Drishyam2015

Sharman Joshi (this film's lead) in a taut thriller about a man protecting his family. Tense, smart, and proof he can carry a film when given better material and pacing.

But It's a completely different tone—serious and dark—so if you want another comedy romp, this will feel like switching channels mid-evening.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Ankhon Dekhi2014

Both are Indian comedies about the absurd, but Ankhon Dekhi is what happens when comedy turns inward and questions its own logic—the opposite of Gang of Ghosts' sprawl.

A quietly surreal Hindi film about a stubborn man who stops watching movies. Deadpan, philosophical, utterly unlike anything Bollywood usually makes. Sanjay Mishra is extraordinary.

But It's meditative, weird, and deliberately paced. If you're coming for ghost-comedy chaos, this will feel like watching paint dry in a Beckett play.

Golmaal Again2017

Ensemble comedy-horror with a similar spirit: multiple plots, ensemble cast, ghosts played for laughs. Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty's signature style. Cheerful, chaotic fun.

But Rohit Shetty's comedy relies on slapstick that hasn't aged well for some viewers. Can feel bloated and the pacing meanders.

Chandni Chowk to China2009

Akshay Kumar in an over-the-top action-comedy hybrid that commits fully to its own absurdity. Entertaining if you surrender to its energy and don't ask too many questions.

But The plot is threadbare and logic takes a back seat. Some find the humor dated; it's very much a product of 2009 Bollywood sensibility.

Phir Hera Pheri2006

Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in a heist-comedy that's faster-paced and sharper than Gang of Ghosts. Genuinely clever moments buried in the chaos.

But The tone whiplashes between silliness and plot twists. Some scenes drag; it assumes you're okay with long setups for punchlines.

It's Entertainment2014

Same year as Gang of Ghosts, same commitment to ridiculous ensemble energy. Akshay Kumar in a heist-comedy-thriller that never stops moving. Colourful and absurd.

But The plot is essentially incoherent and nobody cares. If you need narrative logic or character arcs, this will frustrate you intensely.

Double Dhamaal2011

A sequel that's actually fun—ensemble cast, heist-comedy structure, the kind of film where watching people have fun together is the entire point.

But Relies heavily on slapstick that hasn't aged gracefully. The humor feels very specifically calibrated to mid-2010s Bollywood taste.

Fukrey2013

Young ensemble cast in a comedy about street-smart kids. Less polished than the big-name vehicles, but genuinely energetic and less interested in impressing critics.

But The humor is juvenile and sometimes crosses into territory that feels dated. Budget constraints show; the film has rough edges that aren't endearing.
