Fired Up!

Fired Up! is a 2009 high school comedy about two football players who sneak into cheerleader camp to pursue girls. It's a straightforward, light romp through teenage wish fulfillment—silly, colorful, designed purely for laughs. If you want ninety minutes of uncomplicated fun with zero stakes, this is exactly what it promises.

National Lampoon's Van Wilder2002

A charming slacker comedy with genuine heart and strong ensemble chemistry. Like Fired Up!, it's about coasting through college for reasons of appetite and fun, but it actually lands the jokes and creates memorable characters worth spending time with.

But Released in 2002, it feels dated in ways that might distract you. Some humor hasn't aged gracefully by today's standards.

DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story2004

Absurd, committed, and aggressively silly about a ridiculous premise. It has the same spirit of good-natured dumbness, but Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller's energy actually carries you through the whole film.

But The plot is tissue-thin and the romantic subplot is genuinely weak. You're going in for the bits, not the story.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle2004

A road-trip comedy with real affection for its characters and their friendship. It's silly and crude, but structured better than Fired Up!, with jokes that mostly land and genuine laughs between friends.

But The humor is much more explicit and stoner-oriented. If you're looking for something family-friendly, this goes in the opposite direction.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Bring It On2000

Both films are set in cheerleading spaces, but Bring It On is what happens when a cheerleading comedy is actually made for and about the cheerleaders themselves rather than as a backdrop for male fantasy.

The definitive cheerleading comedy, treating the activity with actual respect while remaining silly and fun. Where Fired Up! treats cheerleaders as conquest targets, this film celebrates them as athletes and characters. Better writing, better chemistry, Kirsten Dunst at her most charismatic.

But It's fundamentally more earnest and feminist in its worldview. If you came for the objectification, you'll be disappointed—it's genuinely interested in girls as people.

Superbad2007

High school comedy perfection. Two best friends, party logistics, girls—same DNA as Fired Up!, but with sharper writing, real emotional stakes, and characters who actually grow and surprise you.

But It's more sincere than Fired Up! wants to be. If you're specifically after pure, consequence-free goofiness, this has too much heart in the mix.

Old School2003

Will Ferrell, bad decisions, institutional chaos. Like Fired Up!, it's about adults and older guys behaving stupidly in environments that don't expect them. Funnier premise, better comedic timing, more memorable set pieces.

But It's genuinely crude and sometimes mean-spirited. Not a feel-good movie the way Fired Up! is.

Monte Carlo2011

A lightweight teen adventure with charm and genuine chemistry between leads. If Fired Up!'s appeal is girls, travel, and lowbrow stakes, this delivers similar energy with competent direction and amiable characters.

But It's aggressively formulaic. The plot is entirely predictable and very little surprises. Some might find it too safe and calculated.

Revenge of the Nerds1984

The original template for misfits invading an elite space and winning through cleverness and heart. It's got the same DNA of underdogs crashing a scene, but with genuine warmth and clever problem-solving.

But It's a 1980s film with all that entails—the tone, the pace, the soft-focus romance. Very dated in ways that require patience from modern viewers.

Revenge of the Nerds poster

Animal House1978

The granddaddy of college comedy chaos. Completely committed to anarchy and hedonism, with a large ensemble creating genuine mayhem. If you like the 'dumb guys doing dumb things' energy, this is where it started and it's still potent.

But Genuinely crude by any standard, with casual attitudes toward consent that feel uncomfortable now. It's a historical artifact more than an easy watch.

The Internship2013

Two underqualified guys trying to fit into an elite environment they don't belong in. Lighter and more earnest than Fired Up!, it's got a similar shape and an enthusiastic cast committed to making it work.

But It's widely considered a failure—blandly written and occasionally cloying. Even sympathetic viewers find it trying harder than it deserves.

Welcome to Collinwood2002

Both are ensemble comedies built on camaraderie and incompetence, but Collinwood trusts its characters and cast enough to let them carry the film rather than relying on scenarios and setup.

A caper comedy about a ragtag group of misfits with zero planning and maximum confidence. The ensemble has genuine affection for each other, the plot is genuinely silly, and the heart is real. Criminally underseen and endlessly rewatchable.

But It's a crime film first and comedy second, so the stakes matter more than in Fired Up!. Some will find it too slight and disjointed in structure.
