Film
Atharintiki Daaredi
A Telugu action-comedy about a charming con artist who infiltrates a wealthy household to reunite a grandfather with his estranged daughter. It's a film that bounces between slapstick humor, heart, and genuine sentiment, built on Pawan Kalyan's magnetic screen presence and comic timing. Ideal for viewers who want spectacle with warmth.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you enjoy big commercial entertainment that still has a warm, comic heart, with set-piece fights, sharp dialogue and a hero who is charming enough to carry a long ride.
Skip it if you want restraint and realism; this runs close to three hours, leans hard into melodrama and broad comedy, and its big musical and action moments arrive loudly and often.
What it asks of you: It asks for a long sitting and a willingness to go along with its exuberance, shifting between farce, romance and full-throttle action without much pause for quiet reflection.

Badhaai Ho2018
A Hindi comedy-drama that understands how to build warmth through family dysfunction and reconciliation. It finds real emotion in comic situations without losing the humor, much like Atharintiki Daaredi attempts.
But The tone can feel scattered as it pivots between broad comedy and sincere sentiment, which some find tonally awkward.

Simmba2018
Ranveer Singh's charming rogue becomes a better man through conviction and love. It's got the same energy: humor, action, and a protagonist whose appeal lies in winning you over despite his flaws.
But The second half leans harder into serious crime drama, abandoning some of the comedic lightness that made the first half work.

Jalsa2022
A Tamil thriller-drama with class conflict, domestic tension, and a protagonist forced to navigate wealth and power dynamics. It shares Atharintiki Daaredi's interest in what happens when someone enters a world not their own.
But It's significantly darker and more morally ambiguous; there's no clear hero, which feels unsettling if you want straightforward rooting interest.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Angoor1982
Both films rest entirely on a protagonist's ability to charm his way into a household through deception. Angoor is the template; Atharintiki Daaredi is the Telugu execution.
Rajesh Khanna's double role in this Hindi comedy is pure theatrical energy—mistaken identity, physical gags, and romantic entanglement. It's the granddaddy of the 'pose as someone else to win a family over' playbook.
But The pacing is distinctly 1980s Bollywood; entire sequences exist just for a song, and the gender politics will make modern viewers wince.

Housefull2010
An Akshay Kumar ensemble comedy built on mistaken identity and elaborate deception. Same energy of chaos erupting from one character's scheme, with romance, family stakes, and physical comedy colliding.
But The plot requires you to accept increasingly ridiculous coincidences; if you need internal logic, you'll spend the whole film annoyed.

Chandamama Kathalu2014
A Telugu film that similarly blends family drama with lighter moments. It's interested in generational divide and reconciliation, the thematic heart Atharintiki Daaredi is also reaching for.
But It lacks the star power and production scale of Atharintiki Daaredi, so it may feel smaller and less immediately engaging.

Jai Bhim2021
A Tamil courtroom drama with a hero fighting for justice, mixing action with genuine dramatic weight. Shows how Telugu and Tamil cinema can build spectacle around real stakes and character conviction.
But It's substantially more serious and heavy; there's no comedy here, and the tone is unflinching about suffering and injustice.

Kabali2016
Rajinikanth as a man seeking reunion and redemption after years apart from family. Action and sentiment coexist, with similar beats of infiltration, revelation, and emotional payoff.
But The film is stylish to the point of obscurity; the narrative gets tangled in its own visual flourishes, making it hard to follow what's actually happening.

Janatha Garage2016
A Telugu action-drama about loyalty, mentorship, and finding purpose. It has the same appeal to character and redemption that Atharintiki Daaredi builds around Goutham's transformation.
But At over three hours, it's a serious commitment, and some of the action sequences stretch credibility in ways that test patience.

Srinivasa Kalyanam2018
Both films pivot on estrangement between parent and child, and both believe that reconciliation matters more than any plot complication. Atharintiki Daaredi reaches for Srinivasa Kalyana's emotional core but dresses it in much louder clothes.
A Kannada family drama about compromise, duty, and relationships between fathers and daughters. It's tender without being saccharine, finding depth in ordinary family conflict.
But It's slow, quiet, and deliberately small. If you need action or spectacle, it will feel like nothing is happening for long stretches.

Lucia2013
Both films are interested in disguise and false identity as ways of escaping or repairing life. But where Atharintiki Daaredi uses deception to connect with family, Lucia shows how living a lie can fracture the self entirely. They're opposite answers to the same question.
A Kannada psychological thriller about a man living multiple lives through cinema and fantasy. It's visually inventive, morally complex, and utterly unlike mainstream Telugu action fare—yet released the same year.
But It's deliberately disorienting; the film asks you to hold contradictory realities in your head simultaneously. If you want clarity, this will frustrate you deeply.
