The rare sequel that turns its own existence into the punchline: same case, bigger budget, funnier for admitting it out loud. Schmidt and Jenko swap high school for college, chasing a drug ring while the real plot is their bromance wobbling under the weight of growing up. Directed by the same duo, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, running the identical anarchic, self-aware comic engine — just aimed at eight-year-olds instead of frat houses.

Same directors, same rat-a-tat joke density, same running gag about being told you're 'the special one' — except it's an animated toy movie that sneaks in one of the smartest chosen-one satires going.

But It's a children's film with a plastic minifigure hero — if that's a hard no regardless of pedigree, it's a hard no.

But No action, no case to crack — just two kids and one very long, very awkward night.

Channing Tatum's comic timing has a cousin in Dwayne Johnson here — huge guy, sweet heart, absurd stakes — paired with Kevin Hart's panic in a very similar odd-couple engine.

But Broader and sillier, with a plot noticeably thinner than either Jump Street film's.

Made the self-aware 'this sequel knows it's a sequel' bit its entire premise nearly two decades before Jump Street turned the same trick into an action-comedy punchline.

The sequel that got there first: a college-set follow-up where characters loudly debate the rules of sequels while living inside one, the exact joke Jump Street's captain makes about bigger budgets.

But It's a slasher film, not a comedy — real tension and kills alongside the meta jokes, so tonally it's a different animal.
