William Henry Hance

William Henry Hance appears in MINDHUNTER as one of the incarcerated men Holden Ford and Bill Tench sit across from in a prison interview room, a convicted killer who agrees to talk. He is guarded and precise in his answers, watching the agents as closely as they watch him, giving little away about his motives.

The show's method is to let real killers speak in their own cadence rather than explain them away, and Hance's scenes work because the writing refuses easy access to his interior life. Corey Allen plays him with a controlled, almost bureaucratic calm that makes the agents' unease, and ours, feel entirely earned.
