Vanessa Huxtable

Vanessa is the middle Huxtable child, caught between the older siblings' independence and the younger ones' mischief, which makes her equal parts eye-roller and instigator. She's quick-witted, a little theatrical, prone to schemes and sisterly alliances, and always angling for more freedom than her parents are ready to grant.

Tempestt Bledsoe plays Vanessa with a natural, unforced comic timing that never tips into precocious-kid shtick — she's funny because she's genuinely exasperated or genuinely scheming, not because the script is winking at the camera. The writing trusts her with real adolescent stakes, small as they are, and she carries them with total conviction.
