John Dutton's grandson, and the child Kayce and Monica are raising close to the ranch and its horses. He's quiet, capable, and already learning the family's hard rules about land and loyalty, caught between his grandfather's world and his mother's caution about it.

Brecken Merrill plays him without cutesiness — a genuinely competent kid whose comfort with animals and land makes the show's stakes feel real rather than abstract. Tate is the reason the Duttons' fight over the ranch has a future tense at all, which gives every threat against the family a sharper, quieter edge.
