Steve Winchell

Steve is the kid everyone at school steers clear of—quick to threaten, quicker to fight, already known as the one who'll be shipped off to a disciplinary program before the year's out. He circles the edges of his suburban town like something caged, until a strange, secretive young woman named Prairie starts asking him to listen.

The show sets him up as a stock menace and then keeps declining to let him stay one. Patrick Gibson plays the toughness as armor rather than nature, so every flicker of curiosity or tenderness underneath lands as a small surprise. Watching him choose, again and again, whether to be the person people already assume he is—that's the hook.
