He works behind the counter of a shoe store, an ordinary-seeming man pulled into Holden and Bill's orbit as one of the countless odd, unsettling people their new science of profiling forces them to sit across from. Polite, a little eager to talk, he answers questions about himself with unnerving candor.

He's a small, almost throwaway encounter that does real thematic work: Mindhunter keeps showing us the strangeness ordinary life contains once you start asking the right questions. Adam Kroloff plays him without any wink to the camera, just calm oddness, which is exactly what makes the scene land.
