Shawn Spencer

Shawn Spencer is a preternaturally observant Santa Barbara drifter who cons his way into a career as a fake psychic detective, mostly because his cop father drilled hyper-attentiveness into him as a kid and he never found a better use for it. He's glib, restless, and allergic to responsibility unless it's disguised as a game.

Roday Rodriguez plays deduction as performance art — Shawn's 'psychic visions' are really just showing off, and the fun is watching him improvise absurd theatrics to hide plain observation. The show trusts him to be charming enough that the con never curdles into smugness, which is the whole trick of the character.
