Saul Tigh

Colonel Saul Tigh is Galactica's executive officer, the ship's gruff disciplinarian and Commander Adama's oldest, most loyal friend. He drinks too much, follows orders without flinching, and rules the crew with a hard hand and no patience for excuses. Loyalty is the whole of him — to Adama, to the ship, to the chain of command.

Michael Hogan plays him as a man held together by rules because nothing else is holding him together, and that brittleness is what makes him compelling before anything else happens to him. The show trusts a supporting officer to carry real weight, and Hogan's ruined, unglamorous voice makes every order sound like it costs him something.
