Anne Hathaway plays her with total conviction, which is the joke and the tragedy at once: Rebekah believes every word of the mysticism she's selling. The writing lets her sincerity curdle into something faintly absurd without ever mocking her outright, and Hathaway finds the ache underneath the affectation.
