Paul Bateson

Paul Bateson is a former radiology technician now serving time for murder, one of the incarcerated subjects Holden Ford seeks out for the BSU's interview project. Soft-spoken and self-possessed, he talks with unsettling calm about his life and crime, treating the conversation almost as a professional exchange rather than a confession.

Morgan Kelly plays him without theatrics, which is the point: Bateson's mildness is the horror. The show uses him to needle at the era's connections between violence, sexuality, and moral panic, and Kelly's flat, articulate delivery makes you lean in rather than recoil, which is exactly how these interviews are supposed to work.
