Monica Long

Monica is a schoolteacher married into the Dutton family, caught between her own Native heritage and the world she's married into. She's principled, sharp-tongued when pushed, and protective of her family, entering the story already navigating old tensions between the ranch and the reservation she comes from.

Kelsey Chow gives Monica a watchfulness that keeps her from being just 'the wife' — she argues back, holds her ground with the Duttons, and represents a perspective the show rarely lets go unchallenged. The character works because she refuses to soften into the background of someone else's family saga.
