Lyudmilla Ignatenko

Lyudmilla is a young pregnant wife in Pripyat whose firefighter husband Vasily is called out on the night of the reactor explosion. She knows nothing of radiation or its dangers, only that he is her husband and she means to be near him, whatever anyone in authority tells her about the risk.

Buckley plays devotion as a force that overrides fear entirely, refusing to be talked down by doctors or bureaucrats who understand the danger better than she does. The performance never asks for pity; it simply shows a woman who will not leave, and lets that stubbornness carry the horror of what's happening around her.
