Kureo Mado

Kureo Mado is a veteran investigator for the CCG, the agency that hunts ghouls, and he brings an unsettling cheerfulness to the job. Small, bespectacled, and unassuming, he lights up at the sight of a good quinque or a well-executed kill, treating extermination as a craft to be admired rather than a grim duty.

Ōkawa plays him with a soft, almost pleasant voice that makes his fascination with weaponry and violence land harder than shouting ever could. The writing withholds easy villainy or heroism, giving him instead a specialist's devotion to his work, and that mismatch between manner and menace is what makes him so hard to look away from.
