Kenny Phillips

Kenny Phillips is deputy editor of the Junior Gazette, the school paper run with fierce ambition by Lynda Day. He's diligent, dependable and quietly anxious, forever smoothing over chaos and covering gaps other people leave behind. He wants the paper to succeed and, less openly, wants Lynda to notice him as more than a colleague.

Lee Ross plays Kenny as the show's ballast — decent without being dull, put-upon without becoming a joke. Against Lynda's steamrolling drive and Spike's swagger, Kenny's earnest competence and unspoken crush give Press Gang its emotional throughline, a reminder that newsroom heroics are built on people quietly doing the work.
