Karen Vick

Karen Vick runs the Santa Barbara Police Department with brisk, no-nonsense authority, forever exasperated by the psychic consultant she's reluctantly hired. She wants results, order, and a department that doesn't embarrass her, and she treats Shawn's antics with a raised eyebrow that never quite masks her grudging reliance on his gift for solving cases nobody else can.

Kirsten Nelson plays the straight-laced boss without letting her curdle into a joke-killing scold, finding real warmth under the exasperation. The writing lets Vick be sharp and competent rather than just an obstacle for Shawn to dodge, and Nelson's deadpan timing turns her skepticism into some of the show's best reaction shots.
