Julien

Julien works at Savoir, the Parisian marketing firm where Emily lands, and greets her presence with visible skepticism. Sharp-tongued, stylish, and unbothered about hiding his opinions, he sizes up this American newcomer as an intrusion on French professional life. He's protective of the agency's culture and quick with a withering remark when Emily fumbles.

Arnold plays him as the show's built-in eye-roll, a character whose job is basically to say what the audience might be thinking about Emily's cluelessness. The fun is in his comic timing and total lack of patience for pretense, which keeps the show from getting too syrupy about its fish-out-of-water premise.
