Joe MacMillan arrives in Texas as a sharp-suited salesman with a Steve Jobs streak and a talent for talking people into things against their better judgment. He wants to build something that matters, or at least be seen building it, and he's willing to burn colleagues, ethics, and himself to get there.

Lee Pace plays Joe as pure surface at first—charisma with no visible interior—then slowly lets the cracks show, so the show's real subject becomes what's underneath the pitch. It's a performance built on withholding, and the withholding is the point: you keep watching to find out what he actually wants.
