Jeanette Hesby

Jeanette Hesby is a mother undone by tragedy: her son Matt has been murdered, and she wants someone punished, quickly and completely. Divorced, devout, and quietly convinced of her own fairness, she leans on faith and certainty to hold herself together, even as the case around her son's death grows messier than the story she needs it to be.

Felicity Huffman plays grief as a kind of armor, letting Jeanette's righteousness curdle into something uglier without ever losing our sympathy for the woman underneath it. The show refuses to let her be simply a victim or simply wrong, and Huffman holds that contradiction in her face — sorrow and suspicion tangled together — long after easier actors would have picked one.
