Jack Lithgow

Jack Lithgow is a British Home Office minister charged with leading the government's war on heroin, a man of briefings and statistics who believes the drug trade is a problem to be managed from above. He is confident, a little complacent, and entirely unprepared for how close the crisis actually sits to him.

Paterson plays the gap between public authority and private blindness with quiet, mounting unease rather than melodrama. The writing uses him as the story's moral hinge, a man whose professional certainty curdles into helplessness, and Paterson never overplays it — his stiffness cracking scene by scene is the performance's whole engine.
