Holden Ford

Holden Ford is a young FBI instructor teaching hostage negotiation at Quantico, restless and quietly convinced the Bureau's methods are outdated. He starts asking questions no one else wants to ask, walking into prisons to interview convicted killers about why they do what they do, certain that understanding evil is the only way to catch it early.

Jonathan Groff plays him as earnest to the point of unease, a company man whose curiosity keeps outrunning his caution. The show lets his ambition curdle almost imperceptibly, each interview leaving a faint residue on him, and Groff never overplays it — you just start noticing the smile arriving a beat too eagerly.
