Bethany Joy Lenz plays Haley's steadiness as a genuine choice rather than a personality default, which makes it interesting when the show tests it. She's the moral center of the group without ever being a scold, funny and a little stubborn, and her groundedness gives the more chaotic characters around her something to push against.
