Guts

Guts is a mercenary, and not much else by his own reckoning — a lone swordsman who fights for money, sleeps rough, and trusts no one. When the charismatic Griffith needles him into joining the Band of the Hawk, he resists fiercely before relenting, wary of anything that looks like belonging.

He could have been a stock brooding blade-for-hire, but the writing keeps insisting on his interior life — the flashes of temper, the reluctant loyalty, the sense that his toughness is armor rather than nature. Nobutoshi Canna's low, gravel-worn voice gives him weight without melodrama, letting silence do as much work as the sword.
