Grandad Roger

Roger is Nick Nelson's grandfather, glimpsed in the quieter, domestic corners of Nick's life away from school and rugby. He is warm and unassuming, the kind of relative who asks easy questions and expects easy answers, offering Nick a small pocket of family normalcy as he works out who he is.

Heartstopper is built from small kindnesses, and Malcolm Rennie plays Roger with exactly that gentleness — no drama, just an old man glad to see his grandson. The character works because he asks for nothing, giving the show a moment of uncomplicated tenderness amid Nick's more anxious scenes.
