Chief of the deck on Galactica, Galen Tyrol keeps the ship's fighters flying with a mix of grease-stained expertise and short temper. Blue-collar to the bone, he's the bridge between officers and enlisted, respected by pilots for his skill and trusted for his blunt honesty, even when it gets him in trouble.
Douglas plays Tyrol as a man of competence rather than rank, and the show uses that to ask hard questions about loyalty, labor, and identity under pressure. His forbidden romance with Boomer grounds the early episodes in something tender and plainly human amid all the war-room tension.
Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol was a Cylon descended from the Thirteenth Tribe. Escaping a Cylon uprising on Earth, Tyrol was one of five who tried to prevent - and later end - a similar war occurring amongst the human Twelve Colonies. Faced with another uprising, he was exiled to live among humanity and given false memories. It is unknown if "Galen Tyrol" is his real name or part of this cover.
