Dr. Stephen Franklin

Chief of Medicine aboard Babylon 5, Stephen Franklin runs Medlab with a fierce, sometimes exhausting idealism, treating every species and every crisis with the same brisk compassion. He is brilliant, overworked, and a little too sure of his own capacity to keep pushing without rest, which makes him both indispensable and quietly vulnerable.

Richard Biggs plays him with a warmth that never curdles into sainthood; Franklin's dedication is genuine but it's also a flaw, a habit of martyring himself to the job that the show is patient enough to let cost him something. The writing trusts a healer character to have his own untreated wound, and Biggs makes that ache visible without ever asking for pity.
