Dr. Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable

Cliff Huxtable is an obstetrician and family man presiding over a busy Brooklyn brownstone full of kids, opinions, and homework he can't quite help with. He wants order and respect, mostly, and gets neither, meeting each small domestic disaster with sarcasm, mugging faces, and exaggerated fatherly outrage that never really hides how much he adores everyone underfoot.

The writing lets him be smart and silly at once, a doctor who philosophizes over a sandwich and loses every argument to a teenager on principle. Bill Cosby's physical comedy, the rubbery faces, the theatrical sighs, turns ordinary parenting scenes into set pieces, making Cliff's warmth register through jokes rather than sentiment.
