Detective Rene Sheppard

Rene Sheppard arrives in the homicide unit as a new detective, sharp and composed, determined to prove herself among colleagues who already have their own history and shorthand. She's watchful and professional, feeling out the rhythms of a squad room that doesn't easily make room for newcomers, while carrying herself with quiet confidence.

The show never lets her competence go unquestioned or unearned — she has to work for standing in a unit built on old partnerships and inside jokes, and Michael Michele plays that friction without turning it into melodrama. There's a coolness to her that reads as self-protection rather than aloofness, which makes the moments she lets it slip land harder.
