David Berkowitz / Son of Sam

Interviewed in his cell as part of the FBI's serial offender study, David Berkowitz is soft-spoken and eager to talk, presenting himself as calm and self-aware. He walks the agents through the story he's told before — voices, a neighbor's dog, forces beyond his control — watching for how they react as much as speaking.

Oliver Cooper plays him as disarmingly ordinary, which is the point of the whole show: the banality behind the myth. There's no theatrical menace, just a man performing insight into himself, and the unease comes from watching Holden take the performance at face value while the audience isn't so sure.
