In 1954 Winden, Daniel Kahnwald appears as a boy out of place and out of time, folded into a family and a decade that were never meant to be his. He watches more than he speaks, wary of adults, careful with what he says, as though he already knows the town holds secrets larger than himself.

Florian Panzner plays him with a stillness that unsettles rather than reassures, a child's face doing the work of someone who has seen too much. Dark keeps its youngest characters quiet and watchful rather than innocent, and that restraint is what makes the 1954 timeline feel haunted before anything is explained.
