Daniel Holden

Daniel Holden walks out of prison after nineteen years on death row, exonerated by DNA evidence but not quite believed by the town he returns to. He speaks slowly, watches everything, and seems half-present, a man relearning sunlight, family, and suspicion at the same time. He wants, mostly, to be left alone to feel his way back into the world.

Aden Young plays Daniel as someone whose interior life moves at a completely different speed than everyone around him, and the show trusts long silences to carry that. He's gentle and unnerving in the same breath, shaped by two decades of isolation the writing never explains away or rushes to resolve. You watch him and can't tell what he's capable of, including kindness.
