Dad

Dad is the head of the Briggs household, a working-class father trying to keep order amid the scrapes and schemes of his son Jonny. He is gruff, easily exasperated, and quick to lay down the law, though never without an undercurrent of affection for the chaos he cannot quite control.

Leslie Schofield plays the exasperation as fully earned rather than cartoonish, giving Dad's short temper a lived-in weariness that makes the character feel like a real parent rather than a sitcom device. The comedy lands because his frustration is always proportionate, and his fondness for his son peeks through even at his crossest.
