Boris Shcherbina

Boris Shcherbina is a senior Soviet official dispatched to Chernobyl in the disaster's first hours, a party man used to giving orders and getting results. He is brusque with the scientist Valery Legasov, impatient with talk of graphite and radiation counts, certain that competence is mostly a matter of will.

Skarsgård plays him as a bureaucrat who has to be dragged, scene by scene, into understanding the scale of what he's facing, and the performance makes that education feel earned rather than scripted — a gruff man's face slowly admitting fear, then resolve. The writing gives him real authority so his changing mind carries weight.
