Bernd Doppler 1953

In 1953 Winden, Bernd Doppler is the man building the future — the force behind the town's new power plant and the money that comes with it. Brusque, commanding, and used to being obeyed, he treats the plant as his legacy and his family as extensions of his will, including a son he keeps a tight grip on.

Anatole Taubman plays him with the flat certainty of a man who has never had to doubt himself, which makes Dark's slow demonstration that time answers to nobody land harder. Doppler is the show's blunt instrument of postwar ambition, and his scenes with his son quietly seed the cruelty that ripples forward decades.
