Barb Hanlon

Barb Hanlon is a mother whose son has just been murdered, and grief has made her ferocious. She pushes police and reporters for answers, refuses comforting lies, and insists her boy was better than the story forming around him. Beneath the composure is a woman bracing for a fight she intends to win.

Felicity Huffman plays Barb's grief as armor rather than collapse, all clipped sentences and controlled fury, which makes the moments it slips genuinely alarming. The show uses her righteous certainty to expose ugly assumptions she can't quite see in herself, and Huffman never lets you write her off as simply villain or victim.
