Agent Jim Barney

Jim Barney is an FBI agent attached to the Behavioral Science Unit, brought in to help formalize the bureau's fledgling work interviewing incarcerated killers. He is measured and procedural where his colleagues chase instinct, more comfortable with paperwork and protocol than with the unsettling men across the interview table, and he treats the unit's mission with careful, businesslike seriousness.

Albert Jones plays Barney with a dry, watchful restraint that makes him the show's quiet ballast — the guy asking whether any of this is actually sound science while Holden barrels ahead. That skepticism, delivered without theatrics, gives Mindhunter's most unnerving scenes a grounded, institutional counterweight worth paying attention to.
