Weak Hero: Class 1

Adapted from the hit webtoon, Weak Hero: Class 1 follows a straight-A student who discovers that being the smartest kid in a violent school hierarchy means learning to fight with his head instead of his fists. It's brutal, tightly plotted, and shot with real menace — less coming-of-age drama than survival thriller, where every hallway is a minefield and every friendship a calculated risk.

Cobra Kai2018

The Western answer to the same idea: a smaller, smarter fighter using discipline and strategy to flip a school's power structure, wrapped in eighties nostalgia and genuine emotional stakes.

But It's soapier and sunnier than Weak Hero — six seasons of teen drama and dojo politics, with far less menace.

All of Us Are Dead2022

Same network, same school-as-battleground energy, but with zombies instead of bullies — claustrophobic hallways, shifting alliances, and kids forced to get ruthless fast.

But Twelve episodes of near-constant horror-action; if you wanted the human cruelty without the undead, this trades one for the other.

My Name2021

A young woman infiltrates a crime syndicate to avenge her father, with the same unflinching, bone-crunching fight choreography and moral murk about what violence costs the person doing it.

But Darker and more adult — this is gangster revenge, not schoolyard survival, and it doesn't pull back from cruelty.

Lord of the Flies1963

Both ask what happens when kids are left to build their own social order, and both conclude that intelligence and cruelty aren't opposites — sometimes cruelty is just intelligence applied badly.

Boys stranded without adults invent their own brutal pecking order — the same idea Weak Hero explores, just stripped of phones, uniforms, and any hope of rescue.

But Black-and-white, slow by modern standards, and grimmer in its conclusions — this is a warning, not a triumph.

D.P.2021no page yet

Swaps the classroom for the barracks but keeps the same quiet dread: institutional hierarchies that grind down anyone who won't play along, and the cost of looking away.

But Slower and more melancholy, more interested in systemic rot and quiet grief than in choreographed fight scenes.

Extracurricular2020

Straight-A students building a criminal enterprise on the side — same tension between the mask you wear for teachers and the violence simmering underneath.

But Colder and more cynical than Weak Hero, with characters that are harder to like or root for.

The Roundup2022no page yet

If you want the violence without the coming-of-age wrapper: pure, brutal, hugely satisfying Korean crime-action with a detective who solves problems with his fists.

But No school, no character arc for the teens in your life — just relentless, escalating brawls.

13 Reasons Why2017no page yet

The American teen-drama version of the same nerve: bullying, cruelty, and consequence, told with the same seriousness about what school does to kids who can't fight back.

But Far more melodramatic, with a controversial approach to its subject matter that some viewers find exploitative.

Prison Playbook2017no page yet

A calm, observant look at hierarchy and survival — this time behind bars — from writers who understand that the smartest way through a violent system is patience, not punches.

But Much slower and gentler; it's a hangout dramedy at heart, with only occasional flashes of the tension Weak Hero runs on.

Death Note2006

Shi Eun and Light Yagami are both the smartest person in the room using that intelligence as a weapon; Death Note just raises the stakes from a schoolyard to the entire world.

A brilliant teenager uses pure strategic thinking to outmaneuver a violent world stacked against him — same brains-over-brawn thrill, dialed up into supernatural cat-and-mouse.

But Completely different genre — anime, supernatural, no school hallways — and its moral compass is far murkier than Shi Eun's.

Bully2011no page yet

Weak Hero turns school violence into a thrilling, controllable story; this documentary is the reminder that the real thing rarely resolves so cleanly, and that's worth sitting with.

A sobering documentary following real kids enduring real bullying in American schools — no clever tactics, no satisfying wins, just the actual weight of what Weak Hero dramatizes.

But There's no catharsis here, no hero who fights back and wins — it's harder to watch precisely because it's true.
