My Adventures with Superman

A zippy, funny reimagining of Superman as a twenty-something finding his footing in Metropolis alongside Lois and Jimmy. Animated, earnest without being po-faced, it mines genuine heart from the origin story while making space for absurdity and mess. For people who love superhero stories but are tired of grimness.

Harley Quinn2019

Anarchic, hilarious, gorgeously animated adult comedy that treats its characters with real affection while making them suffer delightfully. Irreverent without losing emotional weight.

But Relentlessly crude in ways that can feel performative. The constant chaos exhausts some people.

Invincible2021

Animated superhero series that starts as coming-of-age earnestness then detonates into genuine consequences. Stunning action, real stakes, characters you'll actually care about watching break.

But First season's pacing drags. The graphic violence and sexual content will alienate people hoping for something lighter.

The Boys2019

Subversive superhero satire that's also a thrilling action show. Charismatic cast, tight plotting, and it earns every emotional moment by cutting through the noise.

But Grimdark to the point of nihilism for long stretches. If you want heroism that means something, this actively resists that.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Undeclared2001

Same DNA: young people in a community, learning to work together, humor that never punches down at the characters themselves, genuine tenderness underneath the jokes.

Judd Apatow comedy about college freshmen figuring out adulthood alongside their friends. Warm, crude, genuinely interested in how young people become themselves. Precursor to peak comedy television.

But Early 2000s sensibility means some things have aged poorly. Only two seasons before cancellation leaves threads hanging.

Arcane: League of Legends2021

Visually stunning, narratively tight, emotionally devastating. Builds genuine stakes and character depth without needing you to know League of Legends. Animation as a serious artistic medium.

But Only nine episodes before a long wait for more. If you need resolution, you'll be frustrated.

Arcane: League of Legends poster

Young Justice2010

Treats teenage superheroes as complex people navigating real conflict. Sharp writing, excellent voice cast, genuinely tense action sequences. Respects its audience's intelligence.

But Takes itself seriously in ways that can feel melodramatic. The mythology gets baroque and hard to follow.

Superman: The Animated Series1996

Definitive Superman, full stop. Perfectly paced episodes, iconic voice performance from Tim Daly, 90s art deco aesthetic that still holds up. Proves Superman can be compelling without angst.

But Fifteen-minute format means stories are slight by modern standards. Episodic storytelling feels old-fashioned now.

Doom Patrol2019

Wildly weird superhero show that prioritizes character and strangeness over plot mechanics. Brendan Fraser is magnificent. Genuinely unpredictable and funny.

But Deeply bizarre and sometimes disgusting. The narrative meanders and the second season loses focus entirely.

Undone2019

Rotoscoped animation, intricate character work, a mystery that actually unfolds naturally. Feels like someone handed you their dream journal. Deeply human superhero story.

But Deliberately oblique and dreamlike. If you want clarity and forward momentum, this resists both.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow2016

Embraces pure fun: time travel, absurdity, theatrical villainy, characters learning to be a team. Doesn't take itself seriously and that's its greatest strength.

But Early seasons are rough and sprawling. The tonal shift toward camp takes time to land.
