Cozy mystery
A murder happens in a small town where everyone already knows everyone's business, and the amateur sleuth is usually the one person who can't stop poking at it. Cozy mysteries trade gore for gossip, recipes, and a cat who knows more than it lets on. The violence stays offstage, so the puzzle feels like a warm puzzle to solve over tea rather than a dark thing to dread.
